AfriLife embodies Tanzania’s values of nature conservation and community empowerment. We acknowledge the country’s rich forest resources and the importance of sustainable practices in beekeeping. By engaging in innovative practices and fostering community involvement, AfriLife aims to create a positive impact on livelihoods while nurturing the environment. We invite you to join our movement towards a sustainable future through.
Atanas Mluki is the co-founder and CEO of AfriLife Products Limited, having been raised in a beekeeping family in Kabila village, Tabora, Tanzania. His grandfather, a skilled beekeeper, faced financial struggles despite owning numerous traditional beehives. After his grandfather’s passing when Atanas was 23, he worked as a carpenter until he joined an American company selling nutritional products, where he acquired valuable sales and marketing skills.
Discovering that American honey was priced significantly higher than his grandfather’s honey inspired Atanas to return to his roots. He realized that their honey had the potential to compete globally with effective branding. This realization led him to establish AfriLife, with the aim of elevating Tanzanian honey in both local and international markets while empowering other beekeepers to overcome poverty.
Our network of beekeepers engages in extensive beekeeping within the ancestral Kigosi Forest Reserve, which spans an area of 8,265 km². The beehives are suspended from trees in the forest, located approximately 30 to 120 km from local villages, ensuring that our honey is organic by default. The Kigosi Forest is surrounded by Miombo Woodlands, which are vital to the livelihoods of smallholder beekeepers in the area.
Beekeepers hang their hives from the branches of flowering Miombo trees within the Kigosi Forest Reserve. The honey produced from these woodlands meets the basic needs of these beekeepers, including food, shelter, health care, and spiritual well-being.
